One Planet Economy Network

The 11th edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, will take place from 24 to 27 May 2011 in Brussels and around Europe.

This year's theme is "Resource Efficiency - Using less, living better".

The OPEN:EU Network will have a stand at the exhibition (map attached) where we will be running a demo of the EUREAPA Tool. We will be aiming to recruit new members to the Network and raise the profile of the One Planet Economy.

Although details have yet to be finalised at time of publication, we will be officially launching the OPEN:EU Network during Green Week. Full details of the event will be made available in due course.

We are in the process of creating a demo of the EUREAPA tool to display at our stall at Green Week. The demo will highlight the features of EUREAPA and display the scenario animation mentioned above. We will make the demo available on our website just before Green Week and if you didn’t get the chance to watch the whole thing at Green Week, you’ll be able to view it in its entirety afterwards.

One of the principal aims of the OPEN:EU project is to describe how we could move towards a one planet economy by 2050 and so an important part of the application phase of the project will be the development of future scenarios for consumption in the EU.

These scenarios will help us to understand how a One Planet Economy might be achieved by 2050.

They will be developed to explore how consumption patterns and production efficiency might change into the future and where we might intervene with policy to achieve a One Planet Economy in each of these potential futures.

Thanks to all those who were able to participate in discussion at this event organised by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and Ecologic Institute Berlin.

Two unique EC FP7 funded projects hosted back-to-back workshops over two days bringing together experts, statisticians, policy makers and representatives of Civil Society organisations to share feedback on a number of sustainability indicators and to provide a platform for sharing experience of best practices that can improve the use of indicators to assess progress on economic and sustainability goals, at both national and EU level.

We invite policy-makers, civil society groups and non-governmental organizations to join the One Planet Economy Network and engage in a dialogue process, to share visions, knowledge and interests in order to identify how to transform the EU-27 to a One Planet Economy by 2050. The network is hosting a series of virtual and face to face events over the coming months, if you would like to get involved please join the network.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to review the EUREAPA prototype tool. The feedback was positive with constructive ideas as to how we can revise the specification for the online version of the tool.

In May we will be conducting another round of testing. This time we are interested in your thoughts on how the scenario part of the tool functions. You will view a short animation which leads a user through how you would use the tool to create a scenario. There will be an accompanying questionnaire and we hope to get as much feedback as possible. If you are not part of the EUREAPA testing group and would like to be involved, please get in touch.
